The stewardship test
Before adopting a material decision, the process should ask: Who benefits? Who carries the risk? Whose consent, identity, work, livelihood, or environment is involved? What is known, inferred, generated, or uncertain? Can an affected person understand and challenge the decision? What happens if it operates at global scale? What evidence would make us change course?
